Murphy, J.J.

Counselor

I am excited to begin my 5th year as the Guidance Counselor at Cranfills Gap ISD and am honored to be part of such a special school and community. My goal is to get to know every student, family, and community member and to be a resource and support for our students as they grow, learn, and plan for their futures.

I moved to Elgin, Texas, in 1997, and spent many years there before moving to Stephenville in 2024. Elgin has always been known as the Sausage Capital of Texas, so I guess you could say I have "hometown" pride!

I am a proud graduate of Tarleton State University, where I earned my first Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1993, followed by a second Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Services and Development in 1994.

Family is a very important part of my life. I am the proud mom of three daughters, each following her own path. My oldest daughter graduated from Tarleton State University in 2025. My middle daughter manages a clothing boutique, and my youngest is a sophomore who enjoys showing Angus heifers.

I truly believe one of the most rewarding parts of being a school counselor is building relationships with students and being there to support them throughout their school journey. Whether a student needs help with academics, college and career planning, personal goals, or simply needs someone to listen, I am here for them.

I am so excited to be here at "The Gap" and look forward to getting to know our students, families, and community even better. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Cranfills Gap Lions family!
